Swyddffynnon WI
Swyddffynnon WI was established in 1953 and has remained a small but active institute. We meet at the Centre on the first Monday of the month except Bank Holidays, with a break in August.
Our aim is to provide fun and friendship through a variety of activities and Community events, as can be seen from the current programme below and always with refreshments, of course.
Members also have the opportunity to take part in events organized by the County Federation, such as an annual quiz, treasure hunt, darts, craft sessions and other one-off activities. Important social concerns are aired at the County Federation Council meetings and other special events, the National Federation AGM gives each institute an opportunity to vote on such issues.

EDWARD RICHARD SOCIETY
We organise talks and other special events as part of the programme of the Centre. Meetings are normally on Tuesdays, when possible on the first Tuesday in the month at 2pm, and on the third Tuesday of the month at 7.30pm. Normally there is a local basis: either the speaker is from the local area or the subject is of particular local interest, often both. In appropriate cases, there is visual support, either from slides or digitally (equipment is available in the Centre).
Some examples from the programme, which has been running since the beginning of 2006, and has recently absorbed the meetings of the Ystrad Meurig 50+ Club:
Prof David Austin (Lampeter University) - periodic reports on the archaeological work at Strata Florida;
Paul Culyer - the work of the Countryside Council for Wales, especially on Tregaron Bog;
Ogwyn Davies - his life as an artist;
Noel Ford - his work as a cartoonist;
Christine Harrison - her experiences of Marathon running;
Erwyd Howells - shepherding;
Diarmuid Johnson and Bruce Cardwell - a journey from the Teifi Valley to Poland, using photos and music (flute and cittern);
Jasmine Jones - moving here by train 50 years ago;
Rev J Towyn Jones - telling ghost stories by candlelight;
Elvey MacDonald – Patagonia;
Annette Musker - family history;
Dr Andrew Prescott (Lampeter University) - the Ystrad Meurig Collection, which derives from Edward Richard’s own library* and has now been restored and is kept in the University Research Library;
Dr Ann Rhys - medicine, past and future.
We also run short and all-day trips, usually in May or June; these have included:
Cardiff;
The National Wool Museum in Drefach Velindre, and Carmarthen;
The Acton Scott Historic Working Farm (used in the ‘Victorian Farm’ on TV), and Shrewsbury;
Swansea;
Visits to a variety of businesses in the local area (quarry, egg farm, dairy farm, tourist accommodation).
.
Forthcoming:
Rev John Jenkins - experiences as an exorcist.
